What about a Manchester Digital Content Club?
Not loads of time for this as feverishly working on a project, but judging from the reaction I've just received from this tweet, I thought I'd quickly expand on my idea.
I was chatting with @katefeld last night when we both were in attendance at a NWVM do, featuring an interesting converstation about music and social media with @MartinSFP and @seaninsound. We talked about all the different digitial social events that occur, and which ones are actually worth paying attention to. Now, all these different events cover different ground: There's Northern Digital for people working in the sector, various events at the MDDA, and #smc_mcr for people interested in all things social and media. However, at these events, you can notice that certain areas of the sector aren't really catered for, and that's the vast amount of people who work in Digital Content production, be that writing, photography, PR, or video. @katefeld has been doing a cracking job for the last few years with her regular Manchester Blogmeets, but that still only caters for bloggers, and not the wider content producing populace. So here's the idea: We need someone to start a Digital Content social meetup. That way, we'd be pulling out all the folk who produce stuff for the web, not just those that make it work or do social stuff. There's a but here: I don't have time to run one. So, let's open this up to the floor. There's a plethora of spaces around the city centre that could be used (is Madlab a too obvious a suggestion?) so someone out there who works in digital content and knows other people who work in it too should go out and start something. You can have my blessing too - naturally, I'll make a noise about it to help out and would certainly attend. You might even be able to blag an organisation such as Manchester Confidential or the MEN (OK, I know...) to supply some drinks. You'd also be doing some good, and get a nice ego boost too. What do you think? Does someone want to take on the challenge? Thoughts below please.
